Essay #1:
Preventing a 9/11

September 11th, 2001 was a horrific day in American History that will never be forgotten. On that day two of America’s symbols the Twin Towers were destroyed and the Pentagon was damaged. The hero’s on flight 93 saved another disaster that was waiting to occur. Many people think this disaster could have been prevented if certain things were to have taken place. Three things that should have taken place is the consideration of the evidence found decades before of other attacks, the lack of responding to previous threats and attacks, and the lack of facing what was building up to happen and not ignoring it.

Eight years earlier on February 26th, 1993 the terrorist attacked the garage of the World Trade Center. A car bomb was set off in the under ground parking garage. Six people were killed and 1,000 people were injured. The blast occurred at 12:17 P.M and it didn’t do what was intended which was to make the first tower fall and collapse on the second tower. This bomb cut off the centers main electrical power line ad telephone service for much of lower Manhattan. Smoke rose all the way to the 93rd floor. It was said that there was actually evidence from an Egyptian FBI agent of this plot. Again evidence was ignored.

Ignorance seems to have caused this amazing shock through out the world that could have been prevented many times if evidence wasn’t ignored. In 1998 Osama Binladin declared war on the United States and publicly called for the murder of Americans all over the world as a religious duty. A few months later the group knows as Al-Qaeda destroyed the U.S embassies in Kenya and Tanzania which The United States didn’t respond to. The lack of responding to things such as these smaller tragedies compared to the ones that have occurred recently has led to what happened on September 11th. If the nation was more prepared and ready for such an attack the airports would have been more organized and the immigration laws would have been stricken to the point that the terrorist couldn’t even enter the country. The strict procedures and laws living today should have been about before September 11th. September 11th shouldn’t have occurred if evidence was just looked at.

Another factor leading up to this event was the fact of not tracking terrorist that were known for maybe causing a problem for the nation. The failure of knowing where these terrorist were and what they were doing was a big mistake of the United States. For example the two hijackers Nawaf Alhazmi and Khalid Almihdar were said to be in the United States but since there was no one taking care of knowing where these terrorist were it isn’t for sure. If the CIA would have paid attention to the threats of attacking America by Al-qeada before September 11th, and would have kept track of terrorist coming in ad out of America, then we would have been more prepared and ready for what happened instead of completely devastated.

As it is visible these three things that should have taken place all played roles in causing September 11th to occur. If only the evidence found before these attacks was observed and looked in to. Also if the threats and attacks prior were taken seriously then there could have been preparation and support ready for such a thing to happen. Finally if it wasn’t ignored that terrorism was becoming a problem and was going to cause tremendous problems for the nation wasn’t taken so lightly September 11th, 2001 could have been prevented.

Essay #2
Universal Suffrage

Universal suffrage today is a rule that should be followed. It is the right of all adults to vote for their representatives. In a democracy such as mine, giving the right to people to vote for whom they believe should represent them is necessary. No one should lack rights because of their race, gender, or nationality. Everyone should be on an equal basis. To completely accept universal suffrage you must believe that all men and women are equal; no race, gender or type of person is greater than another, and everyone has the right to vote.

Believing all men and women are equal is start to achieving universal suffrage. When it is made clear that the way men and women should be treated are no different then it is easier to establish things. Women didn’t have the right to vote until 1920 which is completely sexist because men are no different from women intellectually, just the physical difference. This should not determine what rights a gender gets and does not get. Men and women should have equal chances to get jobs, equal chances to become a high professional worker, and equal chances to vote. They shouldn’t be lowered of rights and abilities because of their gender, equality has to be obtained. Race, gender, or your ethnic background should not determine what rights you get either.

Racial issues have become great problems not only today but it was even worse many years ago. Segregation occurred because people thought about the differences in their color of skin from someone else’s and the lesser value of a person because of where they came from or the color of their skin had become a great issue. In 1790’s only free white men could vote. African Americans were lowered in society because of their differences from white people. They were discriminated against, couldn’t get jobs that white people could, had to do things that most people wouldn’t want to do. They were also separated at school and at one point whites and blacks had to use different water fountains. African Americans did not get their right to vote until the 1960s.

Equality is a great word to describe different kinds of people from anywhere and everywhere having the same status. Where no one is differentiated from because of their differences from other people, they have the same rights and liberties of everyone else. Problems that usually occur causing non equality could be people who take their own race, gender, or kind of people and persuade them that their kind of people is superior over everyone else. This usually causes riots, violence, and political issues. Some people are forced to do things they do not want to because of the fear of violence. A great example would be the time of Martin Luther King Jr. He was one of the people being discriminated against because of the color of his skin and he stood up for what he believed which was that everyone was equal.

As you can see to accept universal suffrage you must believe that all men and women are equal; no race, gender or type of person is greater than another, and everyone has the right to vote. Having universal suffrage as a rule these days is a great thing because it partially diminishes one way of separating people by race, gender, or ethnic background. By letting everyone vote there is no need for violence or riots because everyone is on a equal base. This is why I think universal suffrage is very important.

Women’s Rights

Women have had many troubles over the years fighting to be treated equally. Women have gone threw numerous difficulties fighting to be treated like everyone else. They have been deprived of many things such as jobs and opportunities just because of their gender. Women should be treated equal because, they are just as good as men, have great intellects and organization skills, and should have the right to become and do whatever they wish like anyone else.

Women are no different than men besides their physical feature differences. They have the same ability to do this men do. Yes, there are some women who can not do things such as construction work and hard core things like that but they still have the intellect to become something use full. Most people see women as things such as house maid, women of the house, people who cook and clean and take care of kids. Women have been greatly mistreated and oppressed for quite a while. An example would be that women could not vote at a point in history but men could. Even in house holds women have been abused for not doing what a man says to do or just because the man feels in power for doing so.

Women shouldn’t be underestimated. In history there are many women who have done something amazing that the world has acknowledged such as Susan B Anthony who organized a life time of dedication to getting women the right to vote. Also Elizabeth Blackwell founded the Women’s Medical College, she paved the way for women in medicine. As you can not only men have done great things in our history that have helped us greatly but also women have too. Some women do consist of skills that some men don’t have the patients for.

Women not having the right to do things because they are women is unacceptable. For example in history women were not able to fight in the wars. Then slowly women got involved by being medical assistance and help along the way in battles. Women have worked there ways from house maids, to secretaries, to doctors. Many years ago women were so unimportant that fathers who were wishing for a son and were blessed with a daughter instead would bury their daughters alive because of the thought that they were of no use and a burden to the family. As we know today women have come a long way. They have fought hard and strong for what they believe in and have achieved most equality then ever before.

Today women have the right to vote, become whatever they want, and have a say in what they do. They have grown and showed the world that they can and will do what it takes to be taken seriously and be accepted as equal human beings. These women in history who have fought for what they believe is right should be remembered for there bravery and courage. This is why women should be respected and treated equally just like men.
